So it’s especially good to kick things back into motion with a single announcement by one of Malaysia’s brightest, most genuine and talented artist most commonly known as  Altimet.

The man’s latest offering titled “Syukur” (from his most recent album Jian) brings to the Malaysian hip-hop scene a refreshing feel and sound, coupled with positive messages of gratitude, hope and , giving the genre a much needed momentary departure from just money and booty. We definitely don’t mind either but you know what we mean right?

In “Syukur”, Altimet tells the story of the everyday man’s (and woman’s) struggle to provide and  make an honest living in the city. “Dari tauke besar hingga kerani, semua punya niat sama di hati,” he raps.

What makes “Syukur” a winner is the blatant opportunity for listeners to connect with the song, being able to relate to it simply because everyone goes through what Altimet raps about in this gem of his.

Throw in a solid and catchy beat and ow we’re definitely looking forward to “Syukur” topping playlists across Malaysia.

The music video for “Syukur”, shot beautifully in black and white, speaks volumes in representing Kuala Lumpur city and Malaysia. Featured in the video are the streets and iconic sites of our amazing capital city. Watch out for the cool cameos as well. Produced by Kartel Records, “Syukur” was directed by Kroll for Phuture Phlow Films.

Just under 2 weeks ago, on the 5th of January 2009, the FFM crew were invited to the premiere screening of FourFourTwo: Road to South Africa 2010 held at SOULed Out, Hartamas.

Naturally, besides the other journalists and bloggers, the show’s entertaining hosts were on hand to make a small presentation of one of Astro’s latest offering.

Jay Menon and Jason Dasey were also kind enough to pose for pictures at the event.

Each week, football fans can expect to see discussions on one of the eight groups, the key players and relevant updates and news leading up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.

Jason Dasey did say before, “The first version of FourFourTwo, which was launched in August and extended to a one-hour show in October, is registering very healthy ratings. Hence, we wanted to leverage on the increasing popularity of the show by giving Malaysians the FourFourTwo: Road to South Africa 2010, serving as a one-stop destination for all 2010 FIFA World Cup South AfricaTM news.”

The show also takes a look at two nations – England and Australia – bidding to host the 2018 World Cup. England 2018 spokesman Clare Tipton-Kenny will be a special guest along with Ben Buckley the CEO of Football Federation Australia where a clip of the Australia 2018 video hosted by Nicole Kidman will be showcased.

The show airs on Astro SuperSport (CH 811) every Thursdays at 9pm.

As part of Nike’s collaboration with “Red” to help raise awareness about HIV and AIDS, they’ve launched special red laces under the slogan “Lace Up, Save Lives”. 100% of the profits from the sale of these laces will be channeled to both the Global Fund and other soccer-based community programmes aimed at educating people about AIDS.

The two main personalities at the forefront of the initiative are U2’s Bono and Chelsea’s Didier Drogba,  netting twice against Arsenal in the special red laces. “It’s a big honour and pleasure for me to be linked with Bono and try to help him save some lives. AIDS and HIV is something that really destroyed Africa, and people don’t really realise how easy it is to save lives — only two pills a day, which is 40 cents.” says the African footballer.

The Nike “Lace Up, Save Lives” laces are available at all major Nike boutiques.  Retail price is RM15.

The event was graced by the world #1 badminton player and national pride Datuk Lee Chong Wei! The students went berserk as he stepped into plain sight. Other famous faces included Era FM’s Nana, Azura as well as celebrity bloggers Niki Cheong and Amanda Choe, just to name a few.

The school girls ran the course in high spirits starting from MGS and making a 2km round back to their school. FFM ran with them and took snapshots as they braved the morning sun. Every single one of them made it to the finish line, schoolmates cheering and all.

Needless to say, the girls and teachers had a blast. The hosts kept the event fun and cheery with fun facts about running and also gave away cool Nike prizes during the little game session.

As Nike RunKL @ MGS drew to a close around midday, the World Wide Fund For Nature was presented with an RM10,000 cheque, a handsome amount on any day.

Hailing from Selma, Alabama, U.S.A, Mia Hamm is the most recognizable female football player in the history of American football a.k.a soccer. She’s done so much for the game back in the States in terms of raising the standards and heightening its visibility among America’s other more “traditional” sports.

More importantly, through Mia Hamm’s achievements in the sport, she has inspired a whole generation of young American women to dream big. In a time where women’s sports received very little attention, Mia thrived even at a young age, earning a spot in the US women’s national squad when she was only 15.

In college, she helped her team (University of North Carolina’s Tar Heels) to 4 NCAA championships (college sports is massive in the States) and won the women’s FIFA World Cup with her national team in 1991. She was 19.

She collected countless personal awards along the way and left nothing short of a legacy in the world of football. Her story though, is not without heartbreak. In 1997, she lost her adoptive brother, Garrett, to a rare blood disease called aplastic anemia. Following her tragic loss, she went on to set up the Mia Hamm Foundation, dedicated to aid in bone marrow research as well as to help the progress of women sports.

Her strength and will to persevere after the loss of a loved one spurned her further as an icon and an inspiration not only to women but to humanity.

I doubt that Mia Hamm is as well-known here compared to the States. Do you know anyone sportswomen closer to home that we should know about?
