This season Manchester United will return to playing in a red shirt with a traditional white collar, an evocative combination worn by the greatest sides in the club’s history; the Busby Babes, the holy trinity of Law, Best and Charlton, and the 1999 Treble winners.

The body of the shirt is red with a white polo-neck collar, while on both shoulders is a white stripe consisting of red and black half chevrons, and on the left sleeve is a Red Devil from the club crest.  On the back of the shirt below the neck is ‘MUFC’ while across most of the back is an engineered mesh of perforated holes in the shape of a shattered chevron, which is designed to cool the spine.

The chevron, replicating the pattern United wore on their shirts when Old Trafford was first opened exactly 100 years ago, is featured prominently on the torso of last year’s home shirt and has been retained and subtly integrated in to this kit. There is also a thin black stripe on the hem, and a spilt on each side to give the shirt a more fashionable appearance, while also being more forgiving for players on the pitch.

Inside the shirt, on the back of the club crest, is a graphic that reads ‘Believe’, the simple and inspiring message behind two of United’s greatest triumphs of the modern era.  In 1999 United ran newspaper advertisements with the message ‘Believe’ on the morning of United’s victory over in Barcelona, and two years ago in Moscow the same message was displayed on cards held up by United fans before their victory over in the final.

The home shorts this season are white with a black stripe containing white and red half chevrons on each side, with the Red Devil from the club crest on the bottom of the right side. The new home socks are black with a red top and a white ergonomic chevron on the back of each calf.

Footballers young and old (at least 18 years old) have entered the competition and the trick is to get noticed by Nike and their talent scouts. One way is to  do that is to rack up as many Facebook fans as you can!

And we’re trying to do our part to help get a Malaysian noticed!

NIKE, Inc. today launched the new Arsenal club kits showcasing a new design approach intended to maximize performance while minimizing environmental impact.  The kits highlight Arsenal’s unique heritage with traditional graphics, while incorporating lightweight design and recycled fabric.

The new kits reflect the design innovation and premium detailing demanded by football’s elite players.  A combination of renewable fabric sourcing, new design aesthetic and numerous nods to Arsenal’s rich history set a new standard for the club uniforms.

Technology Driven and Eco Sensitive Sportswear – We like!

For the first time in the club’s history, the new shirts are made entirely from recycled polyester, with each shirt directly produced from up to eight plastic water bottles found at waste disposal sites in Japan and Taiwan. The bottles are thoroughly cleaned, reduced to tiny flakes, melted into a yarn and spun for kit fabrication. This new manufacturing process reduces energy consumption by up to 30% compared to manufacturing traditional polyester.

With the new manufacturing process, Nike has saved nearly 13 million plastic water bottles, a total of around 254,000 kg of polyester waste that can take up to 500 years to naturally decompose. Every recycled bottle used to make these kits laid from top to bottom would cover over 3,000 kilometers, or 29 football pitches.

The kits allow players to maintain their optimum body temperature and perform at their peak on the pitch by helping keep them dry and cool. The new Nike Dri-FIT fabric, 13% lighter than previous kits, helps to quickly evaporate moisture by drawing it to the surface to enhance breathability by up to 7% more than previous versions. The innovative ventilation zones along each side of the jersey and below the waistband and near the base of the spine on the shorts, significantly increases air penetration to keep players cooler.

The jersey’s new dynamic fit and double knit structure gives it a sleeker appearance, while offering 10% more stretch than the last Arsenal jersey. The jersey’s silhouette follows the body’s natural contours for maximum movement and airflow.

Style and Design

A distinct sense of tradition and style has characterized Arsenal’s approach both on and off the pitch. This season, to reflect their inherent style, Arsenal will play in new home and away shirts featuring the classic sartorial craftsmanship usually found on a tailored Savile Row shirt in London.

Both shirts have a stitched seam on the upper back, deep cuffs on the sleeve, and a wide vertical mesh stripe running throughout the material. The new home shirt is a modern interpretation of the classic Arsenal shirt by combining a red body, white sleeves, and a white round-neck collar.  On the back of the shirt below the neck reads ‘Arsenal’ in the club’s unique font, similar to the massive concrete letters that stand at the entrance to the Emirates stadium.

Inside the shirt on the back of the club crest is a graphic that reads ‘Victoria Concordia Crescit’ which is Arsenal’s Latin motto and translates as ‘Victory Through Harmony.’ The new away shirt contains the same distinct craftsmanship as the home shirt, but is in the classic Arsenal away color of yellow, evoking memories of winning the League title at Anfield in 1989. The v-neck collar, cuffs and pinstripes on the yellow shirt are all redcurrant, the color of Arsenal’s shirts during the first and last year, separated by 93 years, they played at their former stadium and spiritual home Highbury.

This season additional leading clubs, including Manchester United, FC Barcelona and Inter Milan will be wearing the most eco-friendly and technologically advanced kit in football history. The new Arsenal kits will be available from July 2010 onwards.

In conjuction with World Cup South Africa 2010, Umbro has released the World Champions Collection, showcasing the works of several talented artists to create a simply delectable line of World Cup inspired sportswear.

The World Champions Collection pays tribute to the 7 World Cup Champion nations namely Argentina, Brazil, England, France, Germany, Italy and Uruguay.

Each kit features a unique crest designed by artists from a diverse set of creative backgrounds. Inspiration is drawn from the individual country’s football culture, producing impressive works of art.

The Nike All Stars – “We Run It” music video is now released!

Featuring Nike All Stars Joe Flizzow, Moots & JD Pop Shuvit, Andy & Rich Estranged, Izal One Buck Short, MizzNina, Arabyrd, Jin Hackman and DJ Fuzz, the music video exuberates grandeur swagger and flying sporting spirit from start to finish.

We don’t really know the locations in the music video for sure just yet but the music video begins in an alley very much reminiscent of those found in between the streets of Rio de Janerio, one of the footballing capitals of the world.

And then “the war” begins. The neighbourhood kids, split between the Red army and the Blue army, start pouring in and setting up the stage for a straight up street football match on what appears to be an abandoned construction site.

The Nike All Stars feature throughtout the music video as the match goes on, bringing their unique rappling/singing style to the table for an intriguing mix of musical influences.

A couple of Malaysia national football team players are spotted in the video and even Mr. Rajagobal made a cameo appearance!

Directed by Nam II Cho and produced by Edwin Raj, we were pretty much blown away by the cinematography and direction of the music video.

So who triumphs in the end, the Blue army or the Red army? Only one way to find out, ladies and gentlemen.

The USA line is designed by an artist that goes by the name “Mister Cartoon”. The Los Angeles street art legend has had a strong relationship with Nike for many years. His detailed black and white drawings are highly sought after in the music world and beyond. When presented with this project, Cartoon jumped at the opportunity to work on a uniform that would represent the country he loves.

His eagle mascot is tough as nails, with a halo of stars and a look in his eye that says, “Don’t mess with the U.S.” On the crest, “USA” is written in Cartoon’s modified version of old English and scrolls remind wearers of the visual language of tattoos art.

So Me, nee Bertrand De Langeron, is an acclaimed illustrator as well as the art director of Ed Banger records, one of the world’s most cutting – edge labels. Since 2003, his album art and music videos have come to embody the eclectic world of Ed Rec, adding complimentary visuals to their innovative sounds.

His contributions to the France kit exhibit his pop art sensibility and tongue-in-cheek style. The colorful mascot and crest feature a simple character that’s a parody of the stereotypical Frenchman – complete with a tilted beret and manicured moustache.

The pattern lining the hoodie on the AW77 is a brick-like repeat in vibrating red, blue and black and the hand-written font features rounded edges, adding to the kit’s playful vibe.

Graffiti artist Delta, aka Boris Tellegen, has created a geometric world with his art that is a colorful reflection of the constructivist movement that brings to mind both block-like cities as well as pixelized digital environments. A rabid football fan, he was especially excited to play with the colorways on The Netherlands’ new kits.

His artwork for the assortment is an extension of his blocky visual language: The boxy mascot is a simple-yet-dynamic running man, the crest is a cubic puzzle of numbers, and the font is unlike anything before it – heavy as concrete, but somehow agile through its italicized forward lean.

Nike Six Collaborations spawned from Nike Sportswear’s (NSW) desire to celebrate the beautiful game of football in a way that connects to the national team fans that dwell at the intersection of sports and culture. In 2006, Nike collaborated with a group of artists to curate and design environments and spaces that represented their countries, but there was no product connection to these partnerships.  This year, Nike worked with established and emerging artists from six countries to create alternative National Team Kits that flip the script on the classic football kit.

“We wanted to include the kinds of apparel and accessories that would be in a footballer’s bag,” “They would be the same colors of the on-field uniforms, but with the artists’ twists,” said Menaha Nadaraja, Country Marketing Manager, Nike Malaysia.

In order to accomplish this, the Nike team asked the artists to contribute a badge, mascot, print and an alphabet in their handwriting style. Each collaboration includes the N98 Track Jacket, AW 77 hoodie, kit tee, polo shirt and short for both men and women; tee for men and tank for women.

Each kit includes a selection of the Nike Sportswear footwear coordinated with the apparel. In addition to a team-color customized Nike LunarLite Rejuven8 Mid and Air Max BW Gen II, additional silhouettes such as Air Zoom Tiempo, Dunk High AC, Air Footscape Freemotion and Nike LunarLite Chukka Woven have been selected to provide plenty of options to express team pride.

In 2006 during the Football Game in Germany, the original Footscape caught a lot of attention from creative audience. The latest Footscape with Flywire technology push the innovation and silhouette further again. The simple but classic look of Nike LunarLite Chukka Woven and Dunk High AC give fans choices of style to wear the team kit.
